OBEX File Transfer via Bluetooth with the Wizard
Okay so I’m on my Mac and found this application that I wanted to try out on my T-Mobile MDA (HTC Wizard) but the only problem was that I’m on my Mac and I was too lazy to pull out my pc and turn it on and log in and….etc…
So I figured I’ll just push the cab over via bluetooth and that’s that. Well I was wrong; apparently after upgrading to the new ROM my file transfer privileges were disabled. GRRRRR! I immediately suspected that Policy.cab file that was being installed during the “Customization Process,” however it was not that.
So here’s how to get it back to the working condition it was in should you ever come to it:
- Verify that OBEX is enabled
- Navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OBEX and make sure the value for “IsEnabled” is set to 1.
- Go to Start—-Settings—-Connections—-Beam
- Place a checkmark in “Receive all incoming beams.”
- Lastly, make sure your Bluetooth is on in the comm manager and also your IR/Beam must be on.
Now at least this part is solved…. I still have yet to figure out how to send files from my MDA to my Mac…. another battle for another day….

I’m running 10.3.9 and paired with MDA (T-Mob). To send files form your MDA to your Mac with the new ROM update make sure both devices are discoverable then tap and hold the file you want to send from your MDA. Then select Beam and wait a few seconds, eventually it should show up, a blue beam icon and your computer name should show up. If you have not paired the devices, or the Mac is not set to discoverable, then it simply states unknown device.
Cheers.
