OBEX File Transfer via Bluetooth with the Wizard

August 31, 2006 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Okay so I’m on my Mac and found this application that I wanted to try out on my T-Mobile MDA (HTC Wizard) but the only problem was that I’m on my Mac and I was too lazy to pull out my pc and turn it on and log in and….etc…

So I figured I’ll just push the cab over via bluetooth and that’s that. Well I was wrong; apparently after upgrading to the new ROM my file transfer privileges were disabled. GRRRRR! I immediately suspected that Policy.cab file that was being installed during the “Customization Process,” however it was not that.

So here’s how to get it back to the working condition it was in should you ever come to it:

  • Verify that OBEX is enabled
    • Navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OBEX and make sure the value for “IsEnabled” is set to 1.
  • Go to Start—-Settings—-Connections—-Beam
    • Place a checkmark in “Receive all incoming beams.”
  • Lastly, make sure your Bluetooth is on in the comm manager and also your IR/Beam must be on.

Now at least this part is solved…. I still have yet to figure out how to send files from my MDA to my Mac…. another battle for another day….

Some day?

Car Shopping

August 26, 2006 · Posted in Uncategorized · 2 Comments

Well I went to the BMW dealership today to check out the new 3 series BMW. I was hoping my sales advisor would’ve received the 335Ci; however, they only received the 328Ci. In all honesty I think I was expecting more, so I’m sure the 335 will hold up to my expectations. Don’t get me wrong…the design of the new 3 series is really nice! I really liked the new shape, but and the kick the car give was good but I know for a fact it won’t be anything compared to the 335. The sticker on the 328Ci was 40K and some change plus a premium of about 6K dollars.

Just so you know here’s some info on the car.

I’ll go back when my sales advisor calls me, and hopefully this time I’ll know for sure if I want to go with the new 335Ci or say “screw it” and go with a new 5 series.

Six Flags Magic Mountain

August 18, 2006 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

Well that was a fun little trip out to Six Flags! I’m not one for coasters and making you vomit galore..but I must say it was awesome!

We went on a few rides Tatsu, Goliath, Deja Vu, Roaring Rapids, Dive Devil…and that’s about it….considering we wanted to go on X but it was closed. We would’ve gotten out to a few more rides but the average wait time was 1.5-2 hours for every ride we went on…so that kinda sucked.

From all the rides I must say the freakiest but AWESOMEST ride (though not really a ride) was Dive Devil. They basically drop you from a string and you hang from it swaying back and forth….it was incredible!!

Here’s a couple of vids my buddy took on Deja Vu and Goliath:

How Dell killed my Dimension E510

August 13, 2006 · Posted in Uncategorized · 2 Comments

Preface: So yeah I guess I brought this upon myself by actually being honest with them and telling them what I need instead of letting them figure stuff out on their own.

I called Dell Tech Support at 4:40pm PST, and was connected to an agent in about 5 minutes (including navigating the voice prompts and entering “secret” express service codes). Now comes Sunny (aka Sooraj) and after giving him the information he needs to setup my profile or whatever, I tell him that I need the applications CD that normally comes with the computer because there wasn’t any CD in the box. He then asks why I would need those CDs, to which I replied, “Because my Media Center PC will not work without the driver for the TV Tuner card and software decoder for the TV watching part.” Now at this point I thought it would’ve been “all good” and he would’ve said, “Okay one moment sir while I prepare a dispatch for those CDs.” But instead out came the following words, “Okay sir can you please go to Start and right click on My Computer and select Properties….” I was like oh crap! What is he going to have me do?!?!

So as it turns out he needed to diagnose and make sure that in fact if I really need the CDs or not. So after I tell him what I see on the screen he has me go to Dell’s remote connection site (http://remote.dell.com) and enter in a session key/id after which my desktop goes away and turns blue, and then he request for control which I grant him. After all this drama takes place he starts doing stuff. Now I’m just watching him look at the drivers and what not, and while he was doing this I was thinking to myself…”oh man what did I get myself into…I could’ve just gone and downloaded the driver myself, and then looked around a bit for the right decoder software!”

Well after he tries installing two different types of TV Tune drivers, he goes onto Google and looks for “decoder software” and is about to download freaking WinMX!! Can you believe that crap?!? At this point I was like screw this! I release control and I tell him oops it looks like I lost internet connection, and I think you’ll need to send out those CD’s anyway. To which he replied, “Sir I can still see your desktop I just don’t have any control.” I was like ooops wrong key….damn! So then he re-connects and does some more stuff (I’m like totally falling asleep here) and then he says “Hello Sir?” and I’m like “huh?, uh…yes?” to which he replied, “okay sir, I’m going to roll back your driver because it seems that your TV driver is corrupted, so if the computer restarts just log back in and let me know when it’s ready.” At this point I was like whatever man, I just want my CD’s, so I said “okay” and he initiated the roll back…and that was the end.

At that point my computer froze, then gave me the oh so wonderful BSOD and now refuses to boot up. Yes that includes in Safe Mode. So what I had to do instead is use good ol bootable Linux recover the pictures, and videos to a USB hard drive and now I wait for the Dell CD’s to come to reinstall everything. Hopefully they’ll send the right disks, or else….can we say “oh shit!”

And here’s the funny thing, Sunny said he’ll call back on the 18th to walk me though reinstallation process. He also assured me that I have not lost any data, and everything will be okay. Granted I won’t loose any data, it’s a PIA to re-install everything and start from scratch.

Oh man, if I wanted to do this I wouldn’t have bought my Media Center PC from Dell, instead I would’ve built my own!

Oh and by the way….I got off the phone about 7:25pm PST.

A little help please?

August 12, 2006 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

Anyone out there who can help me out a little bit with my site? See the music player up in the header? Well I want to put in some kind of static header type page where if, you, the visitor goes to a different part of the site the music doesn’t restart every time.

The only solution I have thought of is to use frames; however, personally I don’t think I want to go that route, especially since I redid my whole site so I wouldn’t have to deal with frames anymore.

iSkoot

August 9, 2006 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Okay, so I heard about this think called iSkoot, and let me just say….I think this one is a keeper…

What it does is that it allows you to use…let me quote them:

“PC Calling services such as Skypeâ„¢ are empowering people to affordably communicate with friends, family and business associates using their broadband Internet connection. iSkoot extends the reach of PC Calling by allowing users to make and receive PC Calls using only their regular cell phones.

With iSkoot, a mobile phone user gets the power of PC Calling as part of their normal communications capabilities. iSkoot eliminates the need for special hardware, headsets, microphones, broadband connections, USB phones and even PCs, and consumers don’t have to go looking for a WiFi hot spot.

Our iSkootMobile phone application, a free small and simple piece of software, and our network gateway connect your voice network with a PC-PC network so that you can use your Internet phone service from a regular cell phone. Everything you can do with online phone services, you can now do on your cell phone powered by iSkoot.

Currently, iSkoot’s phone application and network support the Skypeâ„¢ service, but iSkoot will be expanding support to new platforms and services, including Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger.”

So yeah…it’s pretty cool. To recap…you use your cellular phone to make Skype calls. I tried it out with my MDA and it works pretty well! For phone calls it uses your minutes (but before you start turning away) just think you’re paying out of your minutes for those international calls as opposed to minutes plus international charges. I know on T-Mobile if I were to call parts of Europe (western) it’ll be at least $.99/minute. For you skype chats it’ll just use your GPRS/EDGE connection, so yeah it’s pretty cool.

So give it a try…worst case scenario you don’t like it delete it.

My setup:
T-Mobile MDA
MIDlet Manager
An account at iSkoot
iSkoot for Motorola V3 RAZR

And just FYI, right now iSkoot has a free trial period so get while the gettin is good. I’m sure you’ll be pleased.
